Interestingly, instead of setting the milestone at the beginning of the game like Russia, it looks like the player will decide in the middle of their game, "OK, make the next question my milestone."

Interestingly, instead of setting the milestone at the beginning of the game like Russia, it looks like the player will decide in the middle of their game, "OK, make the next question my milestone." Not necessarily that, if I'm interpreting your comment correctly. "Once they have banked £1,000, they will be given the opportunity to set their safety net ahead of the next question being asked. They can set their safety net only once and anywhere from £2,000 to £500,000. Will contestants be brave enough to risk losing big money in the hope to go all the way?" So what this is saying is, once they have £1,000, they HAVE to choose the next safe haven, before they even get to see the next question. Besides, it's probably best not to worry about the 2nd checkpoint before you've reached the first. That being said, this makes playing the game MUCH more interesting, as a risk/reward factor kicks into play. Sure, £32,000 is a nice reward, but this special change makes the difference.

Ask the Host as a lifeline? Strange, but we'll see. Well keep in mind the original promos originally advertised as "Ask me"... there are similar game shows in the UK with a similar lifeline.

They can set their safety net only once and anywhere from £2,000 to £500,000. Will contestants be brave enough to risk losing big money in the hope to go all the way?" So what this is saying is, once they have £1,000, they HAVE to choose the next safe haven, before they even get to see the next question. Nope. Scroll down in the press release. It's explained more. However, in these seven celebratory episodes, a new twist will allow the second safety net to be set by each contestant in play. Once they have successfully answered Question 5 and won £1,000, they will be given the opportunity to set their safety net ahead of the next question being asked. They can set their safety net anywhere from £2,000 to £500,000. The can only set this once during their game and until they set their second safety net, they will be asked ahead of seeing the next question. If they choose to set their safety net at the next question, they must correctly answer that question for it to be set and be in play. For example; A contestant has successfully answered Question 10 and won £32,000, they could then be asked if they want to set their safety net at £64,000. If they say yes, they will then see the question, four possible answers and can decide if they want to play. If they play and correctly answer the question, the minimum they will go home with is £64,000. They can continue the game and their safety net will remain at £64,000. This cannot be moved or reset. If they answer the question incorrectly, they will lose £31,000 and leave with £1,000.

Dear Lord, that new safe haven one will DEFINITELY be a game changer. I still can't get the possibility out of my head of someone setting their safe haven to £2000 or £4000 or something, and then getting to the £1,000,000 question and being told "Haha! You just lost FOUR HUNDRED AND NINETY EIGHT THOUSAND POUNDS. YOU LEAVE WITH ONLY £2000." Dang it, I'd REALLY feel bad for that contestant then...

A few thoughts regarding how things are shaping up for the show so far:
15 questions on the money tree - not a fan. As I said in the shoutbox, I feel like the purpose is to artificially elevate how high a contestant is on the money tree at any time. Yes, that was the original format; however, rewatching old episodes, you can often see how much those questions can drag on. With the 12Q format, given their difficulty was reasonable (which, admittedly, was not always the case), you could move on to the higher levels much quicker. Hoping for plenty of editing in post on these ones.
New lifeline - interesting. While some people call it an homage to the "Win a Wok" trailer, I genuinely do not believe this to be the case. But we're all entitled to opinions.
Milestone adjustments - a fresh take on the game, one that definitely puts the player in more control. I will be interested to see how this will be resolved as far as the music cues are concerned, as well as seeing the strategy implemented by the contestants.
Overall, I'm not expecting the reboot to be good, or bad, or anything at all, but rather trying to remain neutral. I am purely curious to see what will happen.

We’ve figured this for a while now, I’m pretty sure.

I'm sure to celebrate the 20th Anniversary it's nice to see the original money tree making a comeback however I still would of preferred if they stuck with 12 questions to the million and kept that second milestone at £50,000. I do like that the contestant has a choice of their second milestone because it means the contestant has control of how much money their willing to risk. I don't know if anyone would put their milestone at £2,000 or £500,000 because setting those as milestones you could ending up losing a whole lot. Say, putting the milestone at £2,000, missing the million and end up losing £498,000 (like you said jon), or setting the milestone to £500,000, miss on that question and lose £249,000. Those two are pretty much the highest amount of money a contestant could lose on a wrong answer. I'm excited to see how this plays out.

Nobody will ever set their second milestone at £2,000 because it's a waste of a milestone. I predict the earliest we'll see anyone set a milestone is £8,000, and that's only if they're floundering up to that point.
I think bringing back the 15 questions will be a good thing. I blame the 12 question ladder for the lack of big winners the show had. Without five easy questions to ease the contestant's nerves, it's much harder to make it deep in the game. Nobody in England won £250,000 under the 12 question format.

This has happened in the German version, where we play the "risk format". You give up your second safe haven in exchange for a really strong lifeline, but obviously, you're haunted by a drop to 500€ all game long. And that drop was once taken by someone who missed the MDQ, which lost him 499,500€. Painful, but he knew the risk.

WOW, the new set looks absolutely fantastic! I'm more for the classic look, but this is...wow!
Watching the video, I noticed that a few additional details were added, which just added to the atmosphere and feel of Millionaire, some of which are, in my opinion, better than some of the cues in the US.
Looking forward to seeing this someplace, sometime.
