The first spinoff format from “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?,” “50-50,” will bow at this fall’s European sales mart Mipcom.
The show extends the 50-50 'lifeline' from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? with pairs of contestants making choices between two answers to a question, and deciding whether they agree or disagree with each other on the answer.
Ed Louwerse, managing director of 2waytraffic International said: "50-50 is an incredibly exciting development for us, which has the potential to play as either a companion to Millionaire or as a stand-alone show."
2waytraffic, the Dutch-based formats specialist that has created the new show and which now owns “Millionaire,” claims the game can run weekly or be stripped across schedules.
A pilot of the show is expected to broadcast on Japan’s Fuji TV channel in November.
Greek’s Mega Channel has earmarked “50-50” to bow in the fall of 2008, while Oz’s Nine Network and Endemol Italy have also secured rights. No American announcement has been made as of yet.
“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” created by David Briggs, Michael Whitehill, and Steve Knight of UK indie Celador, became an international sensation when its arrival in Britain nine years rejuvenated the game show.

I hope it's a companion to Millionaire!

That is very good. 50:50 is a very helpful lifeline. I am glad that version of "Millionaire" is extending it.

Greek 50:50 ran on greek Mega channel from fall 2008 to spring 2011.It didn't have much in common with the classic Millionaire. It was played by couples and it was divided in 2 rounds. The first was the money gathering round(up to € 3000) with 10 questions and the 2nd was the multiplication round where the money gathered from 1st round could be multiplied up to 10x,but the 2 players should have predicted exactly how many questions they got right out of 5. The sound effects were resembling a bit of classic millionaire but they were completely different. It was fun,but not as good as classic millionaire or hot seat.
