After seeing Millionaire change their gameplay AGAIN in Season 9, I think we, as a forum, should vote on which style of gameplay is the best and keep it that way. My question to the show is why do they make so many changes? I got so used to the clock format, but now they are randomizing the questions and getting rid of the original soundtrack we all love?? Gee, I wonder what they are gonna do next...

I think that (if we're not including Super Millionaire in the running) the US clock format is probably the best version of the game. It's fast, it's streamlined, the music and graphics are sheer perfection, and the core of the game remains just as it was in 1999. It was a genuine improvement on the original format.
The season 9 format is fun, but it's just not the same. Removing the original music and the Hot Seat is a major part of why the experience feels slightly off to me. It's still a great show, but I think the season 7-8 format is superior. I was hoping to see the clock stick around for a while.
If you throw Super Millionaire into the mix, though, I think most of us will agree that it was a top-notch experience no matter how you look at it. Super Millionaire really brought the excitement of the original game to new levels, and the set, music, and gameplay updates were all extremely well-executed.

I voted for the Season 9, I really enjoy it. I love most of the cues and really, I think that a mix between this and Seasons 7-8 would just be a great mix! But that's just my opinion.
And yes Super Millionaire was the absolute best of all of them in my opinion. I would take it back in a heartbeat.

I'll agree to this concern. Millionaire should still be about 15 questions, 3/4 lifelines, and 2 milestones to where someone can stop. Also, the new music and desk is just not right. Personally, season 7/8 was the best. Without the clock format, maybe even with the clock format, combined with the graphics and style, it was certainly the best I've ever seen in Millionaire.

While you might not like the changes, you can't deny that we have seen more big money winners this season than in any recent season, and you certainly can't deny it's a whole lot more suspenseful.

I don't like the clock format anymore. It took a while for this season to grow on me, but alas it has, and after I've seen how much more successful people are, I like it.
People also won't spend too much time on questions because they're standing up, and this creates a sense of urgency. People don't want to be on their feet for half an hour thinking about one question, so you won't have a reappearance of the infamous "1-hour question" incident.

Was that 1 hour incident from a woman from Illinois or Wisconsin who took an hour to answer a question after using 50:50 and ended up getting it wrong?

Yes, she was Kati Knudsen, and it holds the record for most time spent on a question (53 minutes, IIRC), which she ended up getting wrong. This is the video of her $500,000 question:

Wow! Thanks for that, glad they edited it... haha. But what interests me is that this is not the type of question asked that you should have time to break it down and think about it for a fraction of time. Some times when numbers come involved or such, more time is needed. Also, sometimes, even with factual questions, you'll need some time to think about it and come up with a final answer, but after, I'd say 5-10 minutes, you should be able to give yourself an answer or tell yourself you just can't get to one. Anyone agree?

BTW and if I remember right from what I read, Joe Trela took a while before answering his $1M question too... am I right? Around an hour too.

Granted, the clock format is good, but in the end, nothing can beat the absolute original format.

I really like the clock format whereas it denatures the original gameplay. Maybe, it's because, in France, we had to wait 2010 for a little change in the show (the gameplay has not changed since the beginning except the fact that there are only 12 questions since 2008 or -09...). French don't like changes ! ;D

I voted for the clock format. Even after the removal of the Phone-a-Friend lifeline, the clock format's lifelines and the excitement of the clock ticking down was really amazing. I was heartbroken when they decided to change formats again... I like the new format, don't get me wrong, but I feel they had it right with the clock. Two jump the question lifelines? Seriously? I may have liked shuffle a little more if they were more creative with the lifelines....

I honestly can't choose. They're all good. The original format is good, but the clock format is better. I can't stand people sitting and thinking for a long, long time and then end up walking away anyway. If you don't know it, you don't know it. I can see if it's a math question that you can figure out but if it's something else that you just don't know, sitting there most likely won't help. But now I really like the shuffle format. The question music in round one is kinda boring but I love the question music in classic millionaire. I hate that not many people make it as far as classic millionaire because I like the music during that time.

I hate that not many people make it as far as classic millionaire because I like the music during that time. You know you're a die hard fan when you base your enjoyment of a particular part of the game on the music cues. After looking at the poll results again, I find it curious to see that the clock format is predominantly the favorite format among members of this community (myself included). Yet, on other websites, I read that a lot of people really seem to dislike the clock. Are those people just a really vocal minority, or is there something about this particular website that attracts lovers of the clock format? I know I've always been very outspoken in my favoring of that particular format, but I really don't think that I led everyone here down the same path. I wonder why we like that format so much more than others seem to. Now that my local station carries a double-run of "Millionaire" daily, I get to see the Shuffle and Clock formats back-to-back. I always enjoy the Shuffle format a great deal, then, once the clock format comes on, I immediately realize how much better I like it.
