When the shuffle format was introduced back in 2010 with Meredith Viera hosting, they changed the overall set and removed the iconic Hot Seat and had the contestants and host stand for the entire duration of the show. This stayed in play until 2019 when the cancellation of U.S. millionaire happened (until celeb revival with Jimmy Kimmel hosting). Ever since I watched Millionaire as a child in the early 2000's I loved the Hot Seat and would imagine myself being very nervous and anxious while sitting in it with the lights and the set! Getting rid of that affected the overall atmosphere and ruined my watching experience of the show, which was very unfortunate to say the least.
My big question is: Why in the hell was the Hot Seat removed? And why did the producers or whoever was in charge of set design make that dreadful decision?
What are your opinions/thoughts on the Hot Seat being removed from U.S. Millionaire from 2010-2019?

If I remember correctly, at that time everywhere but the U.S., Sony was holding the WWTBAM copyright; in the U.S. it was Disney. For Sony, with their copyright transfer, I found that they knew what they needed to do to keep themselves in the identity of entertainment. But for Disney, maybe they just see WWTBAM as nothing more or less a quiz show. Not to mention, Disney thinks the seats constrict players and host, and that's part of the stress that Disney strives to reduce.

Their worst decision isn'y the removal of hot seat but the fact that they changed the music. The soundtrack is part of the identity of the show and completely removing the original soundtrack made it look like a random plain generic quiz show. It totally ruined the whole atmosphere.

Honestly removing the Hot Seat was one of the worst decisions! Hoping if the Millionaire gets picked up again without celebs, the Hot Seat will return!

Didn't they have to make the show visibly distinct from the international version for legal reasons, or did that get debunked? Even when the format went back closer to the original, it was still fourteen questions instead of fifteen.

But the music change was completely unnecessary and did ruin the whole atmosphere! The set as well was a major change that was not needed.

Interestingly, the Brazilian version got rid of its hot seat in 2023. However, the show generally got worse then (briefcase for R$1 million prize present as if it was the early 2000s, classic cues which really don't work well with Rave, especially the 2017 style that Brazil is using - look at Kazakhstan, Slovenia and Sweden).
