Last year’s (admittedly lackluster) WWTBAM game from Microids has received a new edition on PS5 with versions for the other major consoles coming soon. Fittingly, the game is called “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: New Edition.”
The PS5 version is now available and can be ordered from most major retailers. It’s unknown at this time if this new version addresses any of the issues with the previous version, though a quick YouTube search seems to indicate that the bottom-tier voice acting has returned. Per the linked article above, here are the new features: -More than 3,000 new questions for a grand total of 8,000 questions. -New question packs that are sure to put the knowledge of players to the test with topics like Olympic Games and even Justice League. -Enjoy a new option that lets players remove the timer. This should let everyone take the time they need to submit their final answer. -A new “quick game” mode focused on questions and answers that let players reach the million faster. -Enhanced models and animations that immerses all contestants.

Do you know if the game holders will need to buy it again or will it just be an update for them?

Thanks, I thought so. I’ll wait to read some reviews of it before eventually buying it, when it will be available for my console.

If i have to be honest while some of the changes and introduces new features that should have been there at launch in 2020 I feel like it's still got a long way to go to address some of the other problems with it as well. Like it's hard to find people playing this game online to get into a online game with plus it's still doesn't help that the set design is still the same French set just modified to try and fit those other countries. though the details they added is a nice plus and can also see the stairs more better as well. But it's still the same game from before it's not great but can be acceptable if they fix the issues with the PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC Steam and Xbox one versions then I'll accept this compromise but in my opinion the Millionaire game on Apple TV and MacOS is better but that's just me.

I purchased the game on PS5 and have spent some time with it. Here is what you need to know: - The core game is the same as before. "New Edition" is an appropriate name, as you're getting a slightly more polished version of the previous product.
- The graphics and animations are undeniably better. The set does look nicer than before, the on-screen graphics (in particular, the winnings straps) are slightly improved, and the character models are more detailed and have slightly more lifelike movements.
- The currency signs now correctly precede the dollar amounts instead of following them.
- The "Ask the Audience" voting results animation now consistently functions correctly. Previously, the voting bars were glitchy.
- The new multiplayer modes add extra appeal for families/friends who play together.
- There is a new single player mode, Quick Game, that was very nearly exactly what fans wanted - a way to play the game without the annoying host and contestant commentary. However, they dropped the ball on this because the benefit of removing the banal bantering is offset by a complete bungling of the music in this mode. You'll be freed of the irritating host and contestants for a more streamlined experience, but at the expense of accurate music (including a complete lack of question beds). You were so close, Microids!
- All previous pros/cons of this game still apply from the previous version. The localization of the questions and host/contestant dialogue is still very weak. The use of the rave music is still disappointing given the resurgence of the classic format. The Phone a Friend and Ask the Audience lifelines are still unreliable. The overall presentation, variety of modes, core WWTBAM gameplay, and use of the authentic Olga-era intro sequence are all positives.
So, is it worth buying the "New Edition" if you already own a copy of the original game? That depends. If you have a PS5 and don't have a version of Millionaire to play on it, it may be worth taking the plunge for the graphical upgrade and other improvements. Just know that the experience is only slightly improved compared to the prior game. If you're getting this game on the same console for which you already own the previous version, there's likely not much here for you. If you're a Millionaire completionist (like me - no judgment here), you will likely pick this up anyway. The new features may offset the pain of buying this game again, just don't expect to be blown away.

It's just that these basic things should have been a 1.1 patch, but I really dislike the idea of having to pay for it again. Their website does say: "Additionally, the game will keep being updated over the next year with new themed question packs, featuring categories like sports, movies and even video games! Stay tuned for more information about what’s to come!" - hopefully with these packs come more patches and improvement to the gameplay, but I'm not holding my breath.

Did they fix the problem where language options like Spanish, Italian (Can't remember if there was one more that had this issue) where players we're given the English dub despite the the onscreen text and questions being in a different language was that addressed in this PS5 edition of the game?

So "New Edition" was just released yesterday on PC as the "Deluxe Edition DLC" (renamed clearly at the last minute - as everything, including in-game, calls it the "New Edition") for $10, and it appears that people that bought the original version on PC got the DLC for free. The DLC was also added to the Xbox version. There are some minor improvements, detailed above - and it's more playable now on PC for sure. Still not my goto Millionaire game (that would be either the 2nd Edition PC game or the UK PS2 2nd Edition), but it's more solid now.

It’s great that Microids has plans to support the game and add new content through October. There are certainly some simple fixes that I’d prioritize above the question packs (proper music in fast mode, more reliable lifelines, improved localization), but any long-term dedication is appreciated!

FYI: I reached out to Microids Support now this roadmap should be "complete", and they said there's no plans to add further content to the game. Guessing the "New Edition" and/or "Deluxe Edition" DLC didn't sell well enough to warrant the effort. Too bad. With some minor tweaks, this could have been a great game.
