Why are the board games still using the 12-question format?

I'm not even kidding, you look at this new edition and they're still using the 2007 format! It's even spread into the US version!

The same principle applies to the smaller card game also on sale today. Although I have noticed that the Italian board game does in fact retain the 15-question format, but I don't think that one has the phone lifelines. Those themselves seem like a bad idea, the servers are probably going to shut some day anyway. But... giving the US the 12-question format? Why!?

Weird... especially the fact that they have Ask the Host as a lifeline (although IMO the 12q format is not a bad idea, my custom fictional version of a fictional country's Millionaire used the 12q format in 2008-2015).

That’s pretty lazy. Are they perhaps reusing assets from a prior edition without regard to the actual format on TV? Whether intentional as a cost saving measure or accidental via oversight, it’s still not great.

I think what you have to understand is that the board game is based on the show and not a full on copy when it comes to the format rules. If anything, the 12Q format could be out of convivence of time for family and friends to play the game without taking up too much time. So I think in terms of practicality, it's a more sensible option, particularly in modern times where people are more active in social media and other activities.

The only thing I don't exactly like is there is only one milestone at 10,000, unless they have it where you can set it anywhere.

Yeah. I believe the Arab world (SA) 2010 version was the only version to have both the 12q format and the extra-high-risk format.
