deadline.com/2021/09/norm-macdonald-dead-obituary-comedian-saturday-night-live-weekend-update-anchor-was-61-1234833212/Sadly, Norm MacDonald just passed away after a 9 year battle with cancer. None of us ever even knew he was sick as he kept his health struggles away from the public. That said, he was an A+ comedian and was awesome on the SNL desk in his hay day - we'll all miss him. For a lot of us viewing this thread, he was also the most entertaining celebrity contestant in the history of Millionaire, as he galaxy brained his way up the money tree and to the million dollar question, but then galaxy brained his way out of galaxy braining his way into the million. Rest easy, Norm.

Norm was an amazing comedian, and he will always be the quintessential celebrity contestant on Millionaire. He came in as an underdog and left with $500,000. I still think he would have won $1,000,000 had Regis not been so nervous for him!

My three favorite moments from Norm's run was when he jokingly said his charity was the Palm Beach Tennis & Golf Resort, earning a hilarious gasp from Regis. Then of course, his attempt to walk away after the first question. I swear, it's subtle, but his delivery of "Gimme the hundred dollars.." cracks me up every single time. And finally, his 50:50, he came to Madrid and Lisbon and the lifeline ensued hilarity in the studio!
MacDonald was under the impression that Regis had the answers on his screen and that Regis's nervousness was a hint that he was going for the wrong answer. I'll bet if Regis did what Tarrant occasionally says; "There's nothing on my screen here," maybe he would've gone for it. I do like how even current host Jimmy Kimmel would call back to Norm's run when David Chang played for a million. Truly an unforgettable episode.

Norm's way of playing the game, I don't think we'll ever again see anyone of that nature playing the game so casually, especially with the final five questions. (But it was still very exciting nonetheless.) R.I.P.
