The music of Millionaire! It's what adds so much depth into the game show we all know and love, but in later formats the quality appears to have gone down.
CLASSIC
This was the one that started it all with composers Keith and Matthew Strachan whose score was widely known after the premiere and was extraordinary for its time slot and still is to this day! The eerie music in the background as contestants play and the heartbeat in the very back contributes to the overall suspense and sense of dread in the game's atmosphere. Whether the contestant gets it right or wrong, the music adds so much to the game. The lifeline music offer a sense of hope with Ask The Audience and 50-50 but when Phone a Friend comes into play with a timer, it gets scary! But, you best hope you don't get the Million Dollar question wrong as the music alone will haunt you... As far as all this goes, this is my second favorite out of all of them.
CLOCK
Once again, Keith and Matthew Strachan are back at it again, but this time they made it ten times better! They incorporated the classic feel of Millionaire with the addition of a clicking timer at the helm! The clock sound and the time for each question itself is even more suspenseful than the original. Once again, keeping that same atmosphere with the heartbeat as well as the Double Dip and Ask the Expert lifelines. Plus, it gave the show a much more modern feel which I love! This is definitely my number one favorite!
SHUFFLE
Oh boy... where to begin? Well, I must say that the shuffle version is probably the most hated format for Millionaire. Combine that with NO hot seat, the suspense and sense of dread is gone, lights everywhere, and the overall atmosphere of the two previous versions have vanished. As an extra "bonus" the music that is composed by Jeff Lippencott and Mark T. Williams (No disrespect to them) is honestly a disgrace to Millionaire and the legacy it's created. It just doesn't fit for what Millionaire is and should be. However, the music is actually pretty decent for a game show, just not Millionaire. This is my least favorite.
