Clock format is probably the most controversial thing about millionaire in general. Some people love it and some people absouletly despise it. I personally am one of those people who does get annoyed when something can be "common sense" and they have to spend about 2-3 mins of a run debating if they want to "Go for it" and it just gives some "dead time" to watching the show as such, it's intresting to watch people try and decrypt it but at the same time it can be boring for others. I personally like clocked because it feels more "Real" and like you could be watching it almost live due to the tiny editing and what not, USA's 2008-2009 was a great example of this IMO or the UK's "Big Bad Clock" during its first season. Both have their pros and cons obviously but I'm curious what your POV's are on this.

I personally like the clock and the pace it creates for the game. That being said, the concept needs a solid presentation to work. The US is the only country to nail the clock by integrating it so smoothly into the graphics and music. The clock was felt in every breath of the show, so it worked. The UK’s big bad clock or Hot Seat’s timer don’t do much for me.

I can understand hotseat as I almost forget its their half the time being australian as its just pass or eddie trying to convince people to do something else. The USA's hands down my favorite followed by the UK and it being lifted after Q7 I thought was quite nice as those 45 second ones, I can't say I've seen much where its come up other than Jehan Shamsid-Deen's run where she knew the battle but coulden't place the war. Also I liked the big clock in the background ontop of the strap style but I 100% understand where you're coming from, it felt so smooth the USA version. What do you dislike about the UK's if you don't mind me asking?

dragon3989, I don’t dislike the UK clock, it just feels bolted on to the show and therefore gimmicky compared to the way that the US fully integrated it into every aspect of the show.

The US’s integration with the graphics and the music really made the clock format gel. If think if other countries adopted that in their clock formats, it be more exciting for them.

USA 100% did it the best. The thing is tho, you had stuff like india ect who tried to copy it and it just ended up looking ugly IMO, Espically those fake glints, god I hate them to this day. Also the generic clock ticking sound is pretty boring so I can understand where you're coming from. I'm probably gonna try and upload a montage of USA clock episodes at some point considering I have quite a few. I mean Israel taking tier 1 for a 30 second clock was intresting and I don't think I've seen that before but that works fine and is probably the best "Recent take" on it i've seen.

I'd say that the clock format could be improved this way: Q1-2/1-5: 15 seconds Q6-10/3-7: 30 seconds Q11-14/8-11: 60 seconds Q15/12: no time limit.
Lifelines: 50:50 (available on all questions)
Phone a Friend/Plus One/Ask the Expert (available on all questions)
Ask (one/three of) the Audience (available on all questions) Freeze the Clock (available on questions 6-14/3-11)
