Many close friends and colleagues of the trivia world are reporting the passing of Millionaire champion Ed Toutant on Tuesday. He had been battling brain cancer for the last year or so.
I had the pleasure of talking to him a few times on another message board, and had hoped to get a chance to meet him at TCONA one day.
May he rest easy.

It's very sad that he had passed away. Not only was he one of the greatest contestants in the history of Millionaire, but also one of the most influential ones. Despite the questions getting harder and harder, he trusted his instincts and managed to answer all of the questions correctly, thus him becoming a million dollar winner of the show after having been given one more chance to go for the top prize. But Millionaire was indeed not the only game show where he made himself memorable: Jeopardy was also one of them, with him winning $11,401. However, I personally believe that it wasn't his won amount of money that had made him one of the most legendary game show contestants to exist, but rather the fact that he was always an optimistic person and never let any certain loss bring him down. He's gone from earth now, but never forgotten in our hearts. (R.I.P. Ed Toutant)Also, if it is okay, may I ask one question to you, kplewisvox: Could you share with us what you two particularly talked about in the message board?

Also, if it is okay, may I ask one question to you, kplewisvox: Could you share with us what you two particularly talked about in the message board? It was Jeff Gross's message board, so it was usually going over questions in the summary recaps. One of our last discussions, which was one of his last on the board, was what would constitute a "perfect game" on various shows including Millionaire.

R.I.P. very sad news to hear. At least he'll be remembered for an amazing accomplishment that very few people were able to do, hard to believe his win was 17 years ago....

This is pretty hard to wrap my head around. I am absolutely stunned. He was, and will remain, one of my favorite contestants of all time.
I certainly was not expecting to see this when checking the forums just now. From what I saw, Ed was very intelligent and a trivia and gameshow enthusiast. I know he tweeted a lot, but he had not done so in quite sometime.
May he rest in peace. Cancer is terrible.

It's sad to see him go. I hope that he was happy with his million before approaching heaven.

I remember when he was the Plus One for a contestant a couple years ago. He did a good job.

Wow... he passed away in November, and I didn't know until now, this is depressing news to hear either way. And at 66 years of age-- even then it feels too soon.
I remember seeing him return to Millionaire as a Plus One for a contestant (I believe I still have that episode somewhere on my hard drive) and he honestly looked like he hasn't aged a day since his win back in 2001.
May Ed rest in peace.

Wow! I really should become more active on these boards! Every time I log in there's so much I've missed!
I remember the year 2001 and screaming "He won! He won!" when Ed won the Jackpot. He really was a great contestant. Rest in peace Ed Toutant.

What a cool picture, Divvy, a nice experience. He did look different, and I wonder if that was the illness.
