Hi,
I'm new to the forums and noticed a few comments on other sections about hosts but nothing in here about Clarkson. I'm not sure how big the UK following is here.
What did you make of Clarkson? I have always been a big fan of his controversial style since I started watching Top Gear in the early 2000s. I think he fit well with the programme and thought his gaff in the final episode of the season was brilliant (and hopefully not staged).
Do you think we'll get another series with him?

Help refresh my memory; what was the gaff that happened?

Help refresh my memory; what was the gaff that happened? I'm guessing he means this. To the original poster: Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your stay and fit in well within our community. I thought Jeremy added his own brand of wit and humor to the program. He did make fun of some of the contestants and their lack of knowledge, which wasn't exactly warranted since he did not know a ton himself, but he was pretty amusing with some of his lines. I loved the line about Who Wants to win enough for the parking meter they're using while they're in here. That was brilliant. Even though he did make jokes about the contestants, I also got the impression he was rooting for the contestants, too. Will we get another series? Maybe. Do I hope we get another series, and should we get one? Absolutely.

That's the one, I guess I should have linked to it in my original post! The contestant face is priceless when the lights start going up but I can't help feeling sorry for him.
Really hoping we get another series soon.

The Who Wants to Be A Millionaire channel just posted a new video. I think that screams "Well the show is coming back, so we need to warm the audience interested in the mean time by uploading a clip."

That's the new video that was uploaded.
It is an interesting strategy that this contestant did turn to Jeremy before the audience, like Jeremy said, but in the end, it turned out to be useful. The Ask the Host Lifeline seemed to be hot and cold. I saw a statistic that Jeremy actually said the correct answer more times than he did not. This was one of those correct answers that he gave. The audience probably would have voted for elephant as well. I get the impression that the audience and Ask the Host lifeline are very similar in which they are a sure bet for only up until a certain question.
I don't like how the video called him a struggling contestant. Is it because he used the lifeline? That was his first one. If you put it that way, every contestant in the history of the franchise around the world not named John Carpenter is and was a struggling contestant. The correct answer is what the contestant thought, but we all know how much this game can evoke self doubt into the occupant of the hot seat.

Good point about the title of the video, I reckon it's deliberately named that way to draw in viewers. Same goes for the images/thumbnails.
I quite enjoyed the use of the new lifeline in this version but I appreciate the overlap between that and the audience. I think Jeremy's big personality came across even more when he was given the chance to directly influence the contestant and as we discussed earlier, it was certainly controversial. Personally, I'd have liked to have seen Double Dip. I think it's pretty useful and the music is awesome!

The videos keep on coming.
This one came out last week. It seems like they might be doing one once a week. Is anybody else knowing this? New content every week is refreshing. I hope they keep this coming, along with the new episodes.
Plus this contestant had a safety net question here, and his grandpa helped him. What a great use of a phone a friend. We all know not many have used this lifeline wisely before, and I don't mean calling someone who gave a wrong answer. I mean someone who wasted it completely and did nothing to help themselves out. I think of Michael Shutterly, Jim Matthews and Steve Perry on Primetime.
Then for the critics who say Jeremy Clarkson wasn't much help with Ask the Host, here's this.
All he did was help out the person who would win the most money on the specials. Interesting, Gareth thought he was wrong, and he was wrong. Usually, instincts are right. Clarkson showed a proficient amount of knowledge and reasoning on this particular subject, and it helped Gareth answer this question correctly.
Bring on the new series, ITV. I want it, and I'm sure many others do, too.

Another clip is up.
I remember him. For whatever reason, most people just did not win the big amounts. This kid obviously was smart enough, given where he was studying, but he could have used better logic, as sometimes the less obvious answer is the one which is correct. I certainly had no idea. I can't remember which other lifeline(s) he had used, though I assume the audience. I don't know if he phoned a friend or not, though this may have been useful here. He did not know and guessed, which, in my opinion, he should only have done if it was a free question.

He certainly was a cool grandpa. I liked the "Hope it's right" comment at the end despite being 95% sure, that was reassuring (!) I think Clarkson was very good with Ask the Host; he may have been mistakes (see the final episode) but he's only human and the same thing can easily happen with Phone A Friend, as you've said. There was a clip from the Tarrant era where the call was made to the contestant's friend, Chris introduced himself and passed over but the so-called friend failed to say anything aside from "Hello" about three seconds from the time running out. That was a true waste!
I agree with you on the Thunderbirds question. I had no idea myself and would not have a wild guess unless I was sure not to lose any money.
There haven't been any videos since then. This is actually the first time that I've watched some of the more recent UK clips since they were broadcast a few weeks ago. It's enjoyable going back to them, I had forgotten how great a host I found Clarkson to be. I wonder what Chris Tarrant makes of him.

I must say I liked Chris Tarrant a bit better, mostly because of his witty comments, but seriousness at appropriate times. But, I must say, Clarkson is amazing during “Ask the Host” moments.
So here’s what I think *AtH cue starts* I hate cricket.
You can’t beat that!
