The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime was a game show that Channel Seven in Australia premiered in 1999 as a response to Channel Nine launching Millionaire that same year. They promised a bigger prize than Millionaire. What the difference was it was not a progressive moving up type game show, and to be honest a quite confusing format. The first question was called the "Credit Card Question" where if the contestant got the question correct, their current credit card debt would be paid off instantly. The next question was worth $5,000 and had to be answered correctly in order to continue on in the game, and if they did get it correct, from then on in they would have to bet at least half of what they earned. Each question was picked from one of ten different categories. They also had "Lifelines" called Second Chances. They had two of them. However both of them worked differently, One gave the opportunity for the contestant to switch the question for one in a preferred category, The other gave the contestant the opportunity to turn the question into a multiple choice question. They earned a third help called "Last Chance" if they reached the third level of questions, which allowed them to use one of the Second Chances again. Contestants could walk away at any time,. But if they got a question wrong, they would lose the amount they wagered and take home what they had left. The show was cancelled after two years. This was a promo for the show in its early days youtu.be/Rlos9QSITLIThis was a promo for the show after they shifted it to 5:30pm before the News due to low ratings. (And tried to brag about how much cash they had given away, which was $301,000, even though Millionaire at times gave away over $300,000 in one episode) youtu.be/CBVuaat1chQThere's a couple of shots in the promo that show the host and contestant, and it has some similarities to the hot seat in a way.

*with a confused look on my face*
I'm surprised it wasn't cancelled after the first episode, because that format is confusing! Even reading it on your post, i still can't make any sense of it.
-------------------- EDIT: Also, the studio for the show looks relatively similar to the original WWTBAM studio. --------------------

I personally liked this format, but maybe it's because of similarities with "Millionaire". This format also was very popular in Italy (2000-2002), Poland (2000-2002) and Germany (2000-2004).
Additionally, nearly all countries brought something else to the rules:
- Poland - There were no "Second Chances", instead a contestant can change the category of his question twice during the game. All questions were open-ended questions (no multiple choice), and each question was identified by a 3-digit ID number. Additionally, before the game began, contestant (chosen randomly from the audience) has picked a city. From that city, one person was called, that person played along and had a chance to win some money.
- Germany - All questions were multiple choice. 1st question had 2 possible answers, each next question added 1 more possible answer. 1st question = 2 answers, 2nd question = 3 answers, ..., 10th question = 11 answers.
I hope that was interesting!
