Hello #Millionairenation! Have another Millionaire story to post for Millionaire fans that are interested. It will probably be a little lengthy but hopefully worth your read.
Following the news that Millionaire was moving to Vegas, I knew that I had to see the show. The month before my sister went into remission from leukemia, I asked if she wanted to come to celebrate with Vegas and Millionaire! I definitely wanted to see Chris host and was not sure about the move, so I got a plane ticket and flew out there. I stayed at the Aria hotel. Bally's was about a 20 minute walk away. I attended shows from August 10-11. The set looked exactly the same as it did last season. They literally picked up the pieces from Stamford and hauled them to the Jubilee theater. I heard that the set just fit with only 1 inch on each side left.
If any of you read my previous story regarding Cedric you know I am a huge fan of the show. I haven't missed a show in 16 years and am very active with @millionairetv on social media. My sister and I checked into our hotel on the 9th and did some things around Vegas. Rode the New York New York roller coaster and got some food. We walked down to where Millionaire is now being taped so we knew where to go in the morning. Doors are locked. After a good first day around the strip I was ready to see the set and show the next day. On the 10th we went to the 11:45 show. I was so excited! For the 11:45 show you take the test first. The set is behind red curtains and you can see the lights and hear the music being tested, but you can't see the real set until they load you in. At times there were shots of the set on two small monitors in the holding area.
Just like in New York you go up the steps from behind the set and down to be seated. As someone else pointed out, the big screen has a transparent view of the strip at the bottom.
I was seated on the side with the family members, and plus one in the front row. Right in front of the big screen. After the first show, time to switch the audience a bit. Second show. Third show. Nobody got above 20-$30,000 in any show I attended so I didn't get to see $50,000 lighting. I lost track of how many shows they were doing per audience. Three or four at a time, I was just to into it and too excited. Third show I was seated next to comedian Frank Nicotero. He would talk about what was going on on stage out loud and eventually we started talking and getting into the show. I told him I hadn't missed a show in 16 years and he said "Oh wow", and said that he would get me a shirt. During a commercial he got me the shirt, and introduced me to the audience. He said "During commercial break he learned some cool news. This is Blake, and he hasn't missed a show in 16 years". He went over to Chris and said "Chris did you know this guy hasn't missed a show in 16 years his name is Blake". Got applause from the audience and he gave me a shirt. Chris say's "Oh, is that Blake he tweets me all the time. He's a big fan of the show". I was shocked! After Frank sat down from commercial break he said he would get some pictures of me on set. I was really excited about this. Commercial break comes again he tells me to get on stage. Chris took some great pictures with me that I am very proud of. I told him that I think he is a fantastic host and thanked him. It was surreal to be treated this way by my absolute favorite show of all time. The show ended, Chris walked off and of course I gave him a standing ovation.
I went to the 4:00 show alone. This show you take the test afterwards and are loaded into the studio much faster. Chris comes right out and does his intro. Gameplay from here. I was at the Newlywed shows and a few Celebrity shows. I put the pictures of Chris and I on twitter during the switch from the 11:45 show and the 4:00 show. He favorited them, pretty cool. During a commercial at the 4:00 show I asked if he would sign my shirt (I still had it from earlier as the shows are back to back). He said he didn't have a Sharpie, asked one of the staff workers and nobody had one. I said I had a pen, but he said he wanted to do it in sharpie. He said throw me the shirt. They put it on the hot seat chair that they have in the crew area and Frank said "don't worry, Blake we'll get your shirt back to you". Frank said that I was a "super fan" thats why he gets special treatment lol. More gameplay. During the next break Chris signed my shirt with a sharpie and threw it back to me. Very cool!
My sister went with me to the 11:45 show the next day. I had noticed that the Thousandaire contestants had dressed nicely so I decided to wear a dress shirt the next day and sure enough I got picked as a Thousandaire contestant. They pick a number of people before the show to be Thousandaire contestants. You fill out paperwork, and agree to do it. They said my name would be in the hat but I knew they were going to pick me. Before the show starts lawyer comes out and talks to you about basic things. Frank talked just a bit about me during the show. I have to say I was very nervous. Sure enough, at the end of the 11:45 show the cameras were being set up on me and Chris calls my name to be a Thousandaire. Chris says "somebody told him that I hadn't missed a show for 16 years". I said that I have seen every show, every day and asked him if it was okay if I said one thing. He nodded yes and I pointed out my sister saying she beat leukemia. Chris clapped, audience clapped. That was the highlight of the show.
After he says "Let's play Who Wants to Be a Millionaire", we play. When I saw it was a sports question I was sure I didn't know it. He reread it. I did not get the question right, I was just too nervous in the ring of fire and blurted out an answer lol. Chris said "it was one you either knew or didn't, and asked about my sister" as the credits roll. As I was walking off stage Rich DiPirro introduced himself to me and thanked me for being such a great audience member. Just amazing! Chris is a very kind host. We had the best time and saw The Beatles Love that night. That's my Millionaire in Vegas story and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will always be my favorite show ever made!
I tried to upload my photos of Chris and I but it says forum exceeded file limit.
