In the wake of another college semester finally ending, I’ve returned from inactivity! For a little while unfortunately. I’ve noticed that there has been quite a few new members since I’ve last been here. Hello to all!
Now it’s been a while but I guess if anyone’s interested, I’ll be posting what I’ve been up to and I shedding some light on my projects. I’ve already mentioned that I’m in college. My freshman year, with the spring semester coming to a close on the final week. Afterward, I’ll have a week-long break before starting the summer semester. I know to a lot of people, a week doesn’t seem like much but when you’re a college student, its plenty vacation! At least through my experience it is. With the exceptions of weekends, next week is pretty much my days off.
I know I don’t really show this side of me, at least on Regisfans but to be honest, I’ve been on-edge and a little depressed since entering college. The main reason is not really the workload or the difficulty but mainly what I want to do after earning my degree.
If anyone remembers since the first time I’ve joined, I uploaded pictures of the host screen for both classic and timed Millionaire which were software-to-be. Unfortunately those plans never went through. I’m going to try and keep this story as condensed as possible while making sense at the same time because it’s a long one.
Back in Summer ’10, I wrapped up Freshman year of high school, I’ve gained interest in constructing software, specifically for Who Wants to be a Millionaire after being inspired by a couple users I’ve seen on Youtube. Now, before I went on to learning even the basics of software building, I went ahead and designed the graphics first. I made up renders of what the software was going to look like through my eyes. What you guys saw on my Youtube channel is what I wanted to do.
I was very confident that I would get them up and running that I started calling them software from the get-go even though they were renders. But at such a young age, I can remember myself being over-confident and had expansive ambitions. I went ahead and got a look at entry-level software building programs; names of which I can’t remember at this point. This is where I began to have second thoughts as writing simple programs were giving me a bit of a headache. I remember writing one where it gave me error after error. I had to read each line and make sure everything’s correct or else it won’t work. By the time I was ever even halfway done with having the program to work correctly, school started again.
Now I know I may get a question like “How come you stopped working on this project, yet you’ve been working on artworks?” To be honest, ever since falling behind on the software build, knowing it was going to take much more work to get right, my confidence had dropped. The interest fell through the floor when I saw this wasn’t going to be easy. I had feelings back in 2011 when shuffle millionaire came on that I was going to have a try at software builds again, but with 11th grade introducing SATs and college apps, that was a big fat “nope” to my time.
I know if I’m saying that, where do I find time to do artworks? I guess it had to do with me learning program building, and doing something I’m passionate about since I was young. I hope this makes sense guys, it’s a long thread but I tried to make it sound good and not digress too much.
But now here’s a big question. Now that I’m in college and I have no declared major as of now, is it worth going for a computer science major? Is software building really going to be hard in a college setting? A question for all you programmers here. Because I’ve been interested since ’10, but I haven’t been on top of it as much as say, graphic design or art. I’ve already showcased my graphics here before, they’re on Youtube. See, if computer science doesn’t work out, graphic design may be my next choice. But that’s where I’m in a bit of a pickle, I don’t know what to choose because I’m a little weary on choosing a career that’s not behind the curve. I told my friend I was interested in graphic design earlier last week and he literally told me “Oooh, I heard they don’t make much” so I’ve been paranoid…. It’d help if I could get some advice, I haven’t been feeling well with all the stress lately.
But hey! If you’ve read my entire thread, thank you so much. Here’s a cookie lifeline for you!
Thanks for hearing me out! Hopefully I’ll be able to stick around more and become active again.
