This is something that I have been working on for the past 2 days. My school has been closed quite a bit recently because of the cold up here in Michigan. To fight the boredom, I've been messing around with Cubase and started working on a new song. This started when I ran into a patch on my digital synth. I know there are a few chords that are not right and that it ends after the 3 drum beats. I am not done yet. I don't really have anywhere else to share this. There is a forum: Vi-control where there are a whole bunch of professional composers, but I don't have a good connection with other users as I do here. synth start.mp3 (947.44 KB) Sorry for the compressed version of the song. I wanted to upload it in 320kb but it would take 2.5 mb. Here is what the project looks like right now. I made a template of different instruments in groups so it is easier to navigate. Enjoy! I appreciate feedback, constructive criticism is welcomed. You do not need to say that there are wrong chords since I already know that.

Hi boogyman, thanks for sharing! Cubase definitely is a wonderful tool. It used to be my DAW for a couple of years. Now, since I have a Mac, I decided to switch to Apple Logic Pro X. Both programms are amazing, but different. LA Scoring Strings is a good choice, because it sounds decent. I use East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold. Concerning your song, not bad for the beginning. I like your approach of using the musical colours. The synth bars sound a bit too empty to me, I would add something, maybe a very subtle and soft percussion rhythm. The string passage is very full and intense. Concerning the chords, I wouldn't say they're wrong but everything is a bit disordered. If you're interested in getting the chords sounding more properly, I would suggest you to learn the basics of classical music theory. Once you've found your way through it, everything will be far easier than trying to get the right chords for hours. Furthermore, I would add a strong melody to the string passage (maybe with a woodwind, this would be fitting). Hope, I could help you with my feedback. I'm interested in the further development of your song. Maybe you want to post an updated version

Thank you very much! I have symphonic orchestra and I do enjoy it, but can be very frustrating at times. I also have stormdrum1 along with action strikes and HZ01. I do agree that the synth part needs more. I do know a bit about theory but applying it is a different story. I was also thinking of putting a clarinet melody above the strings and see how that goes. Being my first real piece without using other peoples work as a reference, I don't think it is a disaster. I will definitely post updates.
