I would like to make this thread in dedication to one of my favorite hosts of the series.
Frank Edoho hosted the Nigerian version from its premiere in 2004 up until 2017. He currently hosts the Nigerian version of the Price is Right. I have never seen that country's version of the Price is Right. It's hard to imagine anybody but Frank hosting Nigerian Millionaire, but then again, I said the same thing about anybody but Chris Tarrant hosting in the U.K., and I thought Jeremy Clarkson was excellent.
Like Meredith, for example, Frank liked to mess with the contestants. I especially liked the way he delivered some of these.
Check out this person's run after he gave a final answer for his question for 2 Million Naira.
"I'm sorry, but God of Harvest was wrong YOU WERE RIGHT! Two million!"
That's just such a terrific line and the way it was delivered. There's another video that I think has since been taken down in which he tells a contestant, "I'm afraid you have lost nothing!" The bond he has with the contestants is very enjoyable. There was one contestant on a children's special who had a great dialogue with Frank, and he seemed to be willing to maybe help out some of the contestants sometimes, too.
He also reminds me a bit of Eddie McGuire in terms of suspense. Let's say a contestant is torn between two answers. If one of the two answers the contestant is leaning towards is correct, Eddie, and in the God of Harvest, Frank, will immediately eliminate the other two, thus adding to the suspense. In some instances, the contestant should have gone with the other answer. The perfect example of this was Jeff Tarr's Million Dollar Question in 2009 on Millionaire Hot Seat, in which he was torn between Matt Damon and Wynona Rider. He went with Matt Damon, but it was Wynona Rider. Here is the video to that.
Then there's many instances in which Eddie would do this as well. Think of Rob Fulton's Million Dollar Question in 2005, and he was tossing up between Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. Eddie had the suspense of saying Get Smart and Hogan's Heroes were incorrect.
Frank is a blend of Meredith and Eddie, if you ask me. There is perhaps no greater example of messing with a contestant than this.
"I'm sorry but, economics was the right answer...NO!" He also did the same thing for Aroma's question of Five Million Naira.
So, for those who have seen the Nigerian version of the show, what do you think of Frank? How do you feel about him not hosting anymore?
