When I first read this question, my original thought was Puerto Rico, because the US got the island around that time, but I don't think it was ever owned by Spain.
I have NEVER heard of American Samoa before. Perhaps the Virgin Islands was at one point owned by Spain, I am not sure.

The crazy thing is that I am leaning more towards Guam, ironically because it sounds strong to me. I have no other reasoning than that.

I am not confident to go for this, yet.

I am not sure a 50:50 would go my way, so I am going to ask the audience.
