ABC no longer cares about the show. They stopped caring ever since they lost that lawsuit 2waytraffic filed against them ten years ago. Face it. The revival is screwed. Had ABC used their chance to do it right, things wouldn’t be so bad at all.

Not to mention, this win was hyped by ABC so much. If this gets cancelled again before I get the chance to go on, I’ll be devastated. Why do they keep doing the same thing and expecting different results?

God knows why. I hope they’re not trying to kill the show off. Why else would they try to put it against football?

God knows why. I hope they’re not trying to kill the show off. Why else would they try to put it against football? Why would they bring it back, promote it, and then intentionally kill it off? I am genuinely asking. Makes as much sense as having two Z list celebrity seasons, when the first one didn’t even perform that well.

I don’t actually think they’re wanting to kill it off. It’s that they are mismanaging it again, and I said I only hoped they weren’t planning to kill it off.

The first season was made on the fly literally the day before lockdown, and it did moderately well in terms of ratings.
ABC execs may have noted the (unintentionally) minimalist approach and mandated it for the second season. This show has got to be cheap to produce with how they’re doing it. The thing is, audiences were hungry for any new content in April, but have more choices now. Minimalism won’t cut it anymore.
Don’t forget, there were some fan-centric plans to celebrate the show’s return at the outset, including inviting fans and contestants to the initial tapings and creating the prime time special.

ABC could really take notes from ITV.
ITV has:
- A host who shows a lot of enthusiasm and excitement, especially when there’s a top prize winner.
- Fastest Finger, just like Millionaire was meant to be played, with civilians dominating the new episodes.
- Celebrities limited to one episode, usually around a holiday special, like Easter or Christmas.
- Actual confetti, and really nice looking gold confetti, plus really cool lights, when somebody wins the Million.
- Has one week of content every few or so months.
- Better question writing, and focuses a lot on general knowledge questions, rather than weird, obscure pop culture stuff a lot of times.
ITV has done fairly well with its reboot. ABC has a lot to improve on with its.

It’s possible there was no confetti due to COVID reasons but judging from everything else that I have witnessed since the revival, the lack of confetti seems to be ABC saying we’re just going to wing this and see how it does. Maybe they will offer an explanation in the future. It’s hard to believe we had a million dollar win, and the episode was the lowest rated one since the revival started. I think this should sound alarm bells. Something is WRONG. Indeed, my friend. Also, I agree with armanxh2 that 5 out of the 9 winners this year have confetti (because the most recent one doesn't have any, and the other three won before the pandemic took place.

I can’t believe that they’re actually this dumb. Millionaire shouldn’t be taking place on a Sunday to begin with, let alone be up against football. If they’re trying to kill the show, they’re stupid. They could do so much more with the show, but they refuse to do it, and it sucks. Not to mention that The Weakest Link is doing better than Millionaire, 20 years ago, the story was different. This is a huge yikes on ABC’s behalf.

Honestly, had we not seen the pandemic and lockdown take place, I bet it would've gone a LOT better. The hype-up plans seemed to be quite exciting, and the removal of those due to the circumstances, I think, is the missing link that started the descent to minimalism and obscurity.
I don't expect the show to come back for any more seasons, to be honest, and it's such a shame.

I expect it to come back on NBC. CBS and Fox probably wouldn’t touch it.

Well, I’m not sure how the ratings are going to be, but I thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s episode. It had so much of what we could’ve wanted. Last week was a great moment, but this was my favorite episode of the season, by far. More episodes like tonight, please, and hopefully it won’t be cancelled.

Agreed. Tonight’s episode with all civilian contestants was fantastic. The stakes were real, and the game was exciting! Jimmy was also great tonight, proving that real drama and real contestants bring out the best in him.
Please, ABC. More episodes like this!

Dear Millionaire producers: How the hell did y'all manage to make the Million Dollar episode, the literal historic moment of the show. so dang boring, yet the very next episode so exciting? Wait, hang on, I do know, you didn't have any dang celebrities! This episode was amazingly exciting. J.D. was really really entertaining, kinda pulled some slack from Jimmy's monotony a bit, but even Jimmy himself was a little more watchable than usual. It was so great watching a civilian play under his own risk and with his own money, rather than for some distant charity, completely disconnected from the game. It really hit me that they can still do proper Millionaire in the States if they try and want to, if only they manage to not get cancelled. Let's hope this episode proves to them that the big problem isn't that we don't like the format, it's that we need real people, not celebs and their boring no-risk gameplay.
