Since production is ramping up for the upcoming season, it seems like a good time to kick off our discussion of season 16! The rules have been updated on the show's official website. The rules reveal no major game play changes for the upcoming season, so it appears that the classic format will be sticking around for another year. Chris Harrison will be returning as host. It's currently unknown if the show's graphics or music package will be updated. According to Buzzerblog's Twitter feed, production is moving to Caesars Entertainment Studio in Las Vegas. The studio itself appears to be a large, outdoor tent. We'll have a better idea of how the new studio will impact the show's set and presentation once filming begins later this summer. That's all of the updates that we have to discuss at the moment. As more season 16 news leaks, please share it here. |

GSK, you know what's amusing about that? I originally had "classic-ish" format before changing it at the last second. As a community, have we given an official name to the Harrison format yet? We've always named the era (Classic, Super, Clock, Shuffle), but I've yet to see a common name emerge for the current format. "Neo-Classic" Era? "Vegas" Era? "Still Needs Better Music" Era?

Reidb1700 and I are planning to take a trip to Vegas next month to see a taping. If we end up going, I'll be sure to report in on what we see.

Still needs better music era has my vote. It's the one major missing piece at this point. Certainly moving into a tent would free up some money to pay the Strachans, right?  GSK and Reidb1700, I'm looking forward to your set report! |

Yep. I imagine they'll use the original things again if it hits primetime once more.
But with that being said, I'm not sure what they're doing. 2 years down the road for year 20, and 7 from 25 (but that's too far down the road). Hoping for the best.

But what keeps me from liking it is that Sony is still calling this show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". I would have excused the set and music if they had gone under a new title, like Cash Mountain (you would only get this reference if you know the whole history of Millionaire). When somebody mentions the name Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, the first thing that pops into my head is the dramatic lighting, the set, the music, the close-up shots of the contestants because that's what I, and a lot of people, came to know and love. But to change the show and still call it Millionaire really baffles me. It's like the show took advice from Windows 8. |
