US Millionaire is getting a new host again. Chris Harrison, according to BuzzerBlog. Maybe they should rename the show to Who Wants To Be The Host of a Once Successful but now Low Rated Game Show?

Interesting. I thought Terry was going to be stretched a little thin with all of the projects that he's involved in, and I had a hunch that WWTBAM was the project that wouldn't make the cut for him. Turns out I was right. To me, he'll always be the "better than Cedric, but perpetually rough around the edges" host.
Chris Harrison is an interesting choice. At the very least, he's the closest guy we've had since Regis and Meredith to being a broadcaster. Maybe he can be the one to bring back what's been missing from the show for so long: class.
It would also be nice to see an overhaul of the graphics and music, too. It's been a long time in "television years" since an upgrade.

Chris Harrison definitely is an interesting choice. Could you imagine if the US actually switched to the rave format?

Who Wants To Be The Host of a Once Successful but now Low Rated Game Show? BAHAHAHA! To me, he'll always be the "better than Cedric, but perpetually rough around the edges" host. It would also be nice to see an overhaul of the graphics and music, too. It's been a long time in "television years" since an upgrade. I do not disagree that Terry was better than Cedric but he got very old and predictable very fast. After the novelty of a new host wore off, he got very "fake" to watch. Please, PLEASE we need new music. A new format (or at least something that resembles the original) wouldn't do anything but help either.

Agreed. I'd love to see an exploration of other formats. Perhaps bring in the rave format, or maybe even create something brand new. (Please please PLEASE don't bring Hot Seat over though.)

Personally, I would be perfectly fine if it wasn't on everyday and it went to primetime once a month or some infrequent-but-predictable schedule like that. But you can't have any of this shuffle garbage in primetime.
Whatever happened to the producers reading these boards? They obviously haven't for years now!

Remind me again, because I can't remember what was facts and what was rumor mill. Was the shuffle format created as a result of that lawsuit that Celador had several years back? Or was it just created to do something new?

I think it was a result of the changing of the guard. Michael Davies left the show, and the new production team wanted to take things in their own direction. It's been a downhill slide ever since. The powers-that-be just don't seem to understand why people watch Millionaire. If the show is stripped of its drama and its world famous, dramatic presentation, people are going to be put off. No host can save a show that isn't what people tune in to watch. Imagine if they made Jeopardy a high-energy fiesta. People would be understandably upset.
It's not the format itself that's bad, it's the way that it's dressed.
Another problem is that prime time WWTBAM is almost too iconic. Most people really only know the classic show with Regis, even though it's been airing for over a decade in syndication. Few shows have left such an impression on the pop culture landscape. The production team should be trying to capitalize on that, not ignore it.

Rich Sirop is the worst thing to ever happen to that show. Now that James Rowley has been on as EP for a season, I can only hope that he will make some major changes. That is the only chance that show has. If they do nothing to the format, music, etc., I don't believe the show has another entire season in it.

Aww... My aunt Neoma really liked Terry. She'll be quite upset when I break the bad news to her tomorrow morning.

I'm hoping we'll do something like India and Portugal. We'll start out with the classic format, use a different format for a while (in their case it was Hot Seat, for America it's shuffle), then go back to the original.
Wish Australia would do that too...
Anyways, I'm starting to dislike America's Millionaire more than I already do. Along with us having a format that is really hard for me to be really interested in, but we can't keep a single host for very long. Places like Germany, UK, Australia - they can keep one person doing this for over 15 years, while the US has had 4 hosts since 1999 (now 5). Not good!

Not trying to point fingers but, most of the hosts would be there still had it not been for money management being greedy. 2 had other contracts which prevented them continuing, so i hope Chris does a good job at the helm for this season coming up. It will be hard to see the ratings hold with the summer run of game show premiere's coming up here soon, mainly 5th Grader making a long absence return and is this the first prime time messy game show making a premiere since the failed fox family double dare?

Hot Seat is better than the shuffle format.. If they do bring it, they need to merge the shuffle rules. Have 2 rounds: Round 1: Normal Hotseat Rules, 10 Q. Timed questions. 4 people. Get Jump, and Ask the Audience Round 2: Classic Music, Classic Millionaire 4 questions. Last man. Get added Plus One I would like to see a new format... Or see the clock return, with the US music for it.

Or see the clock return, with the US music for it. Like adding more rules and confusing gameplay will bring back viewers. And I doubt they'll bring back the clock. Most people ended up walking away in the middle tier. I liked the music and the graphics of US Clock Millionaire, but as a format, it just didn't work. The problem isn't really the rules, it's the difficulty of the questions. Almost nobody gets to the exciting parts of the game anymore. The producers would have to find a way to create exciting moments with the budget they have. The question is whether they can achieve that with any format that is still, in its core, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?". I have no idea how they could do it. Maybe the choice of host is a start, though. I don't know Chris Harrison, but he doesn't seem to have a comedic background, which bodes well for his hosting capabilities. No more Steve Harvey-fying Millionaire, please!
