Post ---------- Good luck, players! Here we go! ---------- End Disembodied voice: This is Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Defense, show number 1, VTR twelve, twenty-five, thirteen, airdate TBD. Take one. (FFF lights up cue)
Director: We are rolling, standby...ready in five.
In three... ...two... ...one, go theme music, bring it up!
---- (woowho takes the stage as the main part of the theme swells)Oh hello! Thank you very much! Thank you very much, merry Christmas to those of you celebrating today, and welcome to a brand new version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire--one we're calling "Defense." I'll explain more about it as we play tonight, but you may have noticed one change already--there is, in fact, not one, but TWO Hot Podiums here. Anyway, I've blabbed on enough--please welcome the first two players to play the new "Defense" format: Kimarough and millionairefan64! (Both players take the stage--Kimarough101 at the left, orange podium, and millionairefan64 at the right, blue podium)
Welcome, players, nice to have you with us for this debut edition of the Defense format. Let's get to know you two a little bit better, and Kimarough, I'll start with you--tell us a little bit about yourself, including what categories you want to see and which ones you'd rather stay away from.

Hello there woowho! My name is Kimarough101, I am 16 years old and I come from New Zealand. My best subjects would have to do mostly with Pop Culture and anything to do with Movies and Video Games. I do know a bit about history but I fall flat in any aspect of US History,Law and Science. I hope to make it to the Second Stage and win lots of cash, so Lets Play!!

Excellent, well, let's hope a lot of pop culture questions come up today for your sake. Good luck to you. There's someone standing at the blue podium, though, that has something to say about that--here's millionairefan64, everyone, make him feel at home, please! millionairefan64, let's get to know you a little bit better--including what you hope does and doesn't come up on the category tree today.

Thanks Woowho. Well, I am millionairefan64. I am 18 years old. I come from the United States. I absolutely love technology, which includes computers and mobile devices. I am good a math although difficult math such a algebra, calculus can be a setback. Also, Social Studies isn't exactly a big strength of mine. Some science i'm good at but more advanced physics and chemistry kind of stump me. This is my 3rd time as a contestant, have won a combined $272,000 so far. I hope to make it all the way so I win a lot of dough.

Very good, well, nice to have you with us. This'll be a nice match, we've got math on one side, pop culture on the other. They balance out on paper, I would think...but how will they turn out in today's match? Let's find out, shall we? Lots of luck to both of you, let's have a look at the categories and the available money in your Round One... KIMAROUGH101

Now normally this is where I'd say the money has been shuffled as well, except Sir Mix-a-lot over there didn't do that. You see, this is why we call the game "Millionaire: Defense." While you're both going to be playing this same stack at the same time, YOU will secretly assign the money to your OPPONENT'S questions. How you decide which money amount goes where depends on whether you think your opponent will answer the question correctly based solely on the category. So, the general idea is, if you think your opponent will get the question right, you'd probably want to assign a low dollar figure to that particular question. Conversely, attach high dollar figures to the questions you think they'll get wrong. Got it? With all that being said, players, it's time to cover up the cash. Assign your dollar figures...now! Post ---------- Players, please PM me your dollar figure assignments within the next 48 hours. DO NOT POST THEM IN THIS THREAD--any assignments posted in this thread will be considered null and void, and will be randomized. Remember--you are not assigning dollar figures for your own stack! ---------- End

OK, we are locked and loaded--the money has been masked. Is their defense their best offense? We shall see. They are ready, so am I, hope you are too. Let's play Block--erm, I mean... (audience laughs; someone can be audibly heard shouting "Wrong show!")
Oh shut up, I get 'em confused all the time. Once more, with feeling! LET'S PLAY MILLIONAIRE: DEFENSE! (lights come down, audience applauds)
Question 1 is the Harry Potter series, and it goes a little something like this: Question 1: Harry Potter and the Series of Books
| What is the name of the second book in the Harry Potter series?
| A: Chamber of Secrets
| B: Goblet of Fire
| C: Prisoner of Azkaban
| D: Order of the Phoenix

Certainly don't know a lot about Harry Potter but my instinct tells me Chamber of Secrets. So i'll go for A: Chamber of Secrets, Final Answer.

Good kick-start to the bank. Both judged it'd be a fairly easy question, so they both went relatively low on the money. millionairefan64 leads two grand to one, but it's only question one. Incidentally, I neglected to mention before the game started the lifelines available to you--you have 50:50, Ask the Audience, and Double Your Money. Results will be revealed to you and you alone, unless of course you both use the same lifeline for the same question. Where strategy is key lies in using your Double Your Money. I should clear up one thing now--you can't Double and then use a lifeline--by the same token, you can't 50:50 and then Double. Or ask the audience and then Double. Or Double and use both. You get the idea. Sir Mix-a-lot, meanwhile, is probably sick of hearing me talk and is already putting up the next question: Question 2: Device Nik Naks
| Where would you find a "cueing lever"?
| A: Sewing machine
| B: Microscope
| C: Metronome
| D: Record Player

Look at that, it only took two questions before our players disagreed on an answer. And I can hear the crew exchanging money backstage-- (to crew) someone actually bet on two questions? Huh. Interesting. Anyway...who's right? Or are you both wrong? Let's find out...correct answer is... Question 2: Device Nik Naks

It's a record player, what about that! So millionairefan64 will extend his lead, but by how much...? KIMAROUGH101

...a single Benjamin. Very good defense by Kimarough on that question--he lost out on three grand, but it's still early days.
