Okay, this post is just to blow off some steam but WHAT WAS LUDIA THINKING WHEN THEY MADE MILLIONAIRE 2013?!? In about late 2011, Ludia made a game called "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? 2012 Edition" (they had made a game before based on Millionaire). The first one that came out around 2010 based on the clock version for the Nintendo DS and Wii. They were actually decent games. Same music, same dollar amounts, same lifelines. Everything seemed fine until they made 2012 edition. First of all, the first round money tree is completely inaccurate. This is what Ludia had randomized in round 1: - $10,000
- $9,000
- $8,000
- $7,000
- $5,000
- $3,000
- $2,000
- $1,000
- $500
- $100
And these are the amounts that were on the show: - $25,000
- $15,000
- $10,000
- $7,000
- $5,000
- $3,000
- $2,000
- $1,000
- $500
- $100
At least Ludia got the round 2 values right. Second of all, the lifelines are all out of whack. In round 1, all you get are two jump the questions. Where's Ask the Audience? But here's where I lost it. In round 2, they take away any of your remaining Jumps and give you only one Ask the Audience. Even if you don't have any Jumps left, you get an Ask the Audience. That is no how it should go.
Finally, the music is kind of weird. The first two round 1 cues are all right. But an cue number three, there's no melody anymore. And in round 2, if you get a question right, the music continues to play. So if you win the million, the million dollar question music continues to play while you're celebrating. Kind of hard to celebrate to that tune.
To me, I think that Millionaire? games should not be made by Ludia, but to some other game company. Look at Jellyvision! They made a pretty good PC game for Millionaire!

Ludia has ALWAYS been terrible at making games. Many people have said bad things with their games, and I agree. I have $1,000,000 pyramid and it was lame. TPIR decades I've heard from some people is okay, but considering they put in the worst pricing game ever is not such a good idea (even if it was intended as a joke). I have the original TPIR that they made and I'm extremely upset with the PC verison. For one, their games are HUGE in size (almost 1GB!) and for all that the audio quality is lackluster.

Yeah, I feel the exact same way. I have gotten Press Your Luck as a Christmas gift and I was, how should I put this, majorly dissapointed of the quality of the game. Ludia should just sell its rights to an actual quality company that makes quality games.

I have TPIR on my ipad and only play it occasionally because for example the $50,000 version of plinko is always the year 1998. Same sort of problem with ALL the other years. Also the movements of the avatars are very repetitive. I had PYL and was even more disappointed with the game. It is nothing like the actual show. Trips are ALWAYS $3,000 for round 1 and $4,000 for round 2. The voiceover guy is WAY TOO repetitive. I hope Jellyvision was still making millionaire and/or other game show video games.

Jellyvision made FANTASTIC games with Sierra called You Don't Know Jack. They also made the first edition of Millionaire for the PC.

The music problems in the last two Millionaire games baffle me. It's one thing to have an incorrect cue - which I can live with, of course, although I do think that when the only things you need to get right in a video game adaption are the rules, the music, and maybe the set, you shouldn't really have problems with those things. But having two sounds play that sound incredibly wrong and annoying is just poor game-making.
I didn't even bother buying the last Millionaire game because it just seemed like a single-player version of the Facebook game - two jumps in round 1, only ask the audience in round 2, basically the same round 1 values. But having one player makes it pointless to copy the Facebook game. The Facebook game is great, but it's great for a bunch of people playing together. When you have a single player, maybe the actual rules of Millionaire would be a better fit for the game...

I have to agree with woffan2008. They should really make updates on the apps. They don't know anything about game shows. Some other company should do the game shows. You're right about the Pyramid game. It's so lame. I bought another Ludia game, The Amazing Race. It was lame too. You can't play a single game on the Wii. Someone should do something about this.

Also another "GREAT" and "QUALITY" game by Ludia: The Bachelor! Here are some features that Amazon.com "Describes" about the game. Chris Harrison is your host in the game and will take you through the single player mode that is structured like the TV show Sabotage your opponent's dates to prevent them from receiving a rose?or they may sabotage yours! Features real-life The Bachelor and The Bachelorette contestants Take personality tests and view your dating profile and compatibility results It really seems that Ludia is going to be plunging into the great black depth that is bankruptcy. Also included is a game trailer for the game! Enjoy! (And let me just say in advance: WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS!?!)

Jesus, the software I use for my 3D games hasn't seen a graphical engine update in probably 15 years or more (it was launched in 1995) still uses a better engine than that monstrosity.

The developers must have literally not tested the multiplayer mode on that game once to not have caught and rectified that cacophony. And they didn't even bother to fix the problem when they ported the game from the Wii to the PS3. I hope another developer gets the Millionaire license from this point forward. If Cedric the Entertainer proves popular as host, perhaps some new video games will be made to capitalize on his success... and hopefully Ludia won't be behind any of them.

The 2010 game wasn't all bad, but... really, the recent games, they must have tried really hard to make a mess of them! ....there's a 2013 version?

Frank, I agree for the most part, but 2010 BAM was still rather crudely done. Even then, I'd expostulate it's the best of any of Ludiacrous' games.
First and foremost, the game got all of its questions from the show, no original work there. This was videlicet descried in the higher levels of the game, as I've seen Toutant's multimillion question, and Basin's MDQ, to name a couple of these examples, extemporaneously. In addition, virtually no view of the host while playing, OR the cool angles of camerawork prior to each question. Last but not least, the MDQ's loop just stops about 90 seconds in, so if you're stuck there, you eventually get NO music. Faineance at its precipice, isn't it?
It is stunning that Ludiacrous was this bad juxtaposed with Jellyvision, given the ameliorations and prevalence of technologies, given the time both games were developed, isn't it?
As an aside, I think the 2013 game just means the iOS app; which, yes, exists, but nothing new there, for consoles or computers.
----
To answer the question though, given how the prognosis of many companies is that of tablets and smartphones being the wave of the future, I impugn any claims that there will be neoteric games in the future; excepting a substantial vicissitude in the rules, highlighting Cedric as emcee. Any sanguineness antipodean to the aforementioned asseveration are those with apocryphal postulations.
EDIT: Hah, Nick, well done! In any case, this is pretty close. Only thing that changes is the last sentence, and to that of those individuals having questionable opinions. My rationale for this simply is because I don't see the need, reason from a company perspective. Not enough has changed; Cedric himself doesn't change how the game's rules themselves are played/done. To my knowledge, sure, the host might be changing, but gameplay itself isn't, at all.
