As of today, the categories no longer show up in order before being shuffled. With today's episode, they shuffle as they appear. While this bugs me, it also means that we now are truly clueless, which makes more sense in the context of the game.

If it just started all of a sudden, maybe it was a glitch?

True. I hope this isn't a legitimate change.

It was weird. It happened when the 2nd contestant started his game. I even have a video that can prove it.

Well, it sounds like they're trying to make it just a tad bit quicker. Of course it looks like they might want people to not look at the lower categories (easier questions) and make that assumption of an easier question vs. a harder one. I'm not liking this.

It's definitely a time saving measure. Every time a home viewer has to watch the money shuffle and then the categories shuffle, there's a chance they'll change the channel. American game shows are all about speed now. I'm not a huge fan of the change because it makes it less clear to the casual viewer just what is being randomized at the start of the game, but it certainly does speed up that segment of the show considerably.

American game shows are all about speed now. Yes, that's true... ever since being in syndication, Millionaire has been getting significantly quicker... which is good, but this, I don't think is necessary... it's too quick. Maybe if Meredith said "Let's shuffle up the money as well as shuffle the categories and get it all mixed up" or something like that, it will be more clearer to everyone. Either way, I still don't like it.

The thing that I see wrong is that the person (or viewer) doesn't know if the questions are actually randomized or that the questions could have been orginized by a human instead or a computer.

Yea, I watched it tonight, and my first guess was it was to save time. Every little bit counts.

Hmm, I don't like it too. I think it saves like 2 seconds, maybe less or more. Of course you can switch the channel in 2 seconds, but if you want to see the ending of the episode, you'll watch these 2 seconds without any frustration. Am I right or not?

It happened again on Today's episode, so It maybe a pernament change. Personally, I don't want it to be a pernament change because I like seeing all the money and questions getting shuffled.

My idea about it is that everybody now knows that money and questions are shuffled, so Meredith doesn't need to point it out every single time. It kinda makes sense in my mind.

It may save time but I think it's for the whole "we don't want you knowing the original difficulty of the question" aspect. There was a contestant last season I believe who made a remark "that was one of the easier questions in my stack before they shuffled it" when he gave his final answer. Remember these guys are putting up a $250,000 liability for every person that walks out on their set - they don't want constant big winners. They can't afford to be paying out huge amounts every other show! (Also I'd bet good money that if they had a million dollar winner then their insurance premiums would probably go up!)

(Also I'd bet good money that if they had a million dollar winner then their insurance premiums would probably go up!) So you're saying they would rather not part with a Million dollars and give out small chunks of cash making people think they're doing well (which they are) but not as well as they could be doing?

As of Today's Episode (October 28th), the show once again show the categories before their shuffled.
