Good host?

Where's what I like, and dislike about Meredith:

Like:
Nice and Charming - She loves her contestants, that's really obvious.
Quick with the Questions - She gets to the point. When new game changes happens, she's good at explaining them.
Great at Striking up a Conversation - Really takes the edge off the contestants. The pause allows the contestant to remove from the drama for a bit.

Dislike:
Can't Control the Audience - There's times where the audience takes control with clapping, and she doesn't do a lick about it, besides telling the contestant they are right. Only if they are wrong does she quiet the audience.
No Drama - Regis (even on his guest host week) can really make the contestant squirm with drama. It just never seems dramatic with Meredith.
Clock Obsessive - She's edged away from this over the last few months, but she still sometimes interrupts the contestant to wait until the clock starts clicking. Just let them Final Answer before the clock restarts.

Don't shoot me for saying this, but I actually like Meredith better than Regis. Nonetheless, I love Regis, but Meredith seems more compassionate for the contestants and more genuinely caring about the show.

They definitely have different styles. Regis focuses on building drama and suspense, as well as getting laughs, while Meredith focuses on keeping the contestants comfortable.

Regis' style works better for me, but they both add a lot to the show.

RegisFan is right, they both have their own styles, and I like them both for different reasons, but if I had to pick, I'd go for Regis.

I do love Meredith, myself. On one hand, she makes the contestants comfortable, and feel at home. But, on the other hand, the 'hot seat' is not meant to be comfortable. The lighting and music was created to make your heart pound and to be nervous. Overall, though, Meredith is very sweet, and I wouldn't have the syndicated version any other way.

No, just kidding, but I do like both hosts. But I don't think that anyone's better than the original, that being Regis. ;D

I think Meredith is just fine. True that she's no Regis but she is also good. I like her as a host.

I really think she does okay, but like it has been said before, she is no Regis. I haven't watched much since she became the host, at first it was kinda so-so for me with her. After a few viewings though she did start to grow on me.

She shows what any woman can do hosting any game show like Kennedy from Friend or Foe?
I think she is doing good but Regis did better. He gave life to "Millionaire".

I totally agree about Regis. He really did put a LOT into millionaire when he was hosting. He was probably the biggest reason that I did enjoy watching the show when it first aired and the reason why I still love the game. There was no one quite like him.

I think she's great. I think I even like her more than Regis. Before TV went HD I had a radio that picked up TV audio, so I was able to listen to the show at work, and even without visuals she did a wonderful job.

My only complaint, and an earlier poster touched on this, is when she tries to make a contestant think he got the answer wrong. I don't like it in the first place, and she seems to do it so much that whatever humor there may be in it is diluted. On the other hand, when she does drag it out like that you know the contestant got the answer right, because when the "final answer" really is wrong she tends to break the bad news quickly.

I gotta say, I think I like Meredith better. I always told myself that she wasn't as good as Regis, but when Regis came back for the 10th anniversary, he just didn't seem as good as he used to be I guess. I do, however, think they both make great hosts.

For me, Meredith Vieira is better than Regis because she's more expressive and close to the contestants.

I agree with you. In a more recent episode, this proves that she has no fear of having fun and joking around with the contestants. I really think she is a good host of Millionaire.

That's what I always think, she's ok but Regis was the man!

I'd like to see Todd Newton or Drew Carey (because he dominated in celebrity millionaire)
